A Busy Weekend with the Army, Junior League of El Paso and DeadBeach Brewery

This last weekend we rounded out a few major projects which passed milestones for ourselves and our clients, the U.S. Army’s Joint Modernization Command, The Junior League of El Paso, and the Deadbeach Brewery.

We were contracted by the US Army’s Joint Modernization Command (JMC) to rebuild cannon carriages for two 1862 Napoleon 12-pounders during the month of October. The largest components were the center 8’ long spines weighing in at around 200 lbs each. We also made the cannon supports and axle covers. All these parts were made from maple hardwood. The cannons were unveiled on Friday, November 1st when the JMC moved into their new headquarters at Fort Bliss.

Friday was also opening day for the Junior League of El Paso’s annual Christmas Fair.  Compound Design donated hundreds of hours of design, labor and machine time beginning in May of 2019. We manufactured over 400 toys (rockets, airplanes, helicopters, cars, and scooters), 250 animals (birds, moose, bears, rabbits, and foxes), 400 corbels, and many, many snowflakes, all with the efficiency and precision of our CNC router. We also assisted Gaddy Builders with decorative appliqués and signage for buildings in the lobby of the El Paso Convention Center which included a clocktower with functioning clocks.

Finally, on Saturday, our friends at Deadbeach Brewery celebrated their 4th Anniversary with a block party, a favorite annual tradition of ours. The brewery owners asked for our help in building photo-op signage for their patrons as well as easels that could support full sized sheets of plywood that would be used as canvases for the four live painters that were in attendance.

It is fulfilling to complete such major projects but even more rewarding to make even a small contribution to the success of these events.
